Since 2019, the final event of the Calgary CNC has always been a plant-blitz of Britannia Slopes. This event was first organized by Gus Yaki and we continue the tradition to honor is commitment to conservation to Calgary Parks.

About the event

Gus Yaki's legacy of contributions to community-building, citizen science, and a love for Calgary's natural areas lives on through this annual event of Calgary's City Nature Challenge. For over 25 years, Gus visited the Britannia Slopes to observe and document early spring flowers and wildlife along the Elbow River.


We will meet on the top of the escarpment (look for people with cameras and binoculars). We will then walk down the slope looking for early spring wildflowers before making our way to Sandy Beach to document birds, trees, and shrubs. We will aim to back at the top of the slope just before sunset as we say thank you before the seventh annual City Nature Challenge finishes.
